“The foundation of effective representation is straightforward: know the law, know your client, and outwork the opposition.”

— Charles Hickman, Esquire

Charles C. Hickman, Esquire is the founder and managing attorney of The Hickman Law Firm. A dedicated trial attorney, Mr. Hickman concentrates his practice in plaintiff-side personal injury, medical malpractice, nursing home neglect, and complex family law litigation throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Prior to establishing the firm, he completed his Judicial Fellowship with the Honorable Christopher P. Mallios of the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, and served as a Research Lawyer and Solutions Consultant at LexisNexis Legal & Professional, where he provided expert legal research training and strategic guidance to more than one hundred law firms and legal organizations across the Philadelphia and New Jersey regions.

Mr. Hickman earned his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he distinguished himself as President of both the Student Bar Association and the Black Law Students Association, earned Dean's List honors, and received a Professional Legal Research Certification from LexisNexis. He further deepened his legal education through international comparative studies at Oxford University's Hertford College and the University of Toronto. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude in Social Science, from Allen University, where he served as President of the Student Government Association.

Mr. Hickman is a proud and active attorney member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice. He is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association and an attorney member of the Pennsylvania State Bar, where he serves on several committees. He is further affiliated with the American Inns of Court (Temple Inn), The Federalist Society, and The Racquet Club of Philadelphia. Whether negotiating a resolution or taking a case to verdict, his preparation and tenacity have consistently delivered results for his clients.

Legal Experience

Prior to founding The Hickman Law Firm, Mr. Hickman served as a Research Lawyer and Solutions Consultant at LexisNexis Legal & Professional, where he collaborated directly with more than one hundred law firms and legal organizations across Philadelphia and New Jersey. In that capacity, he delivered expert legal research training, taught accredited continuing legal education courses, and partnered with business development teams to expand access to premier legal research solutions. He also completed his Judicial Fellowship with the Honorable Christopher P. Mallios of the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas, where he conducted substantive legal research to support judicial decision-making and prepared legal documentation for an active trial court docket.

Mr. Hickman's litigation foundation was forged through substantial experience at respected plaintiff's firms across the region. As a Legal Fellow on the Motions Response Team at Weitz and Luxenburg, P.C. — a nationally ranked plaintiff's injury firm — he conducted daily legal research and drafted pleadings in complex asbestos and toxic chemical exposure matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As a Law Clerk at The Locks Law Firm in Philadelphia, he managed pre-litigation and active litigation matters involving asbestos, benzene, and medical malpractice, drafted motions and discovery, and attended court hearings, trials, and depositions alongside senior attorneys.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hickman served as a Student Attorney in the felony unit of the Washtenaw County Public Defender's Office, where he appeared in court under attorney supervision representing indigent defendants in arraignments, competency hearings, and trial proceedings — earning the Professional Achievement Award for his courtroom contributions.
